Aurastudy
Cookies and local storage
The technical tools Aura uses and what remains in the browser.
Last updated: 19 August 2026
1. What is used, and what you choose
Aurastudy uses cookies and browser storage in two clearly separate groups. The necessary ones are needed for authentication, security, saving the anonymous workspace and remembering choices you asked for; they cannot be switched off without breaking the service. The optional one is usage measurement, which is only activated if you consent, and only for that purpose.
There is no “accept all” button, and no advertising, profiling or behavioural analytics technology: the choice offers refusal and consent with the same weight, refusing costs no functionality, and until you choose, nothing related to measurement is loaded or sent.
2. Necessary tools
| Tool | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase authentication cookies | Keep the signed-in session secure and refresh it. | Session and renewal period configured by the authentication service. |
aura.state | Store folders and maps for people using Aurastudy without an account. | Until the user clears site data or migrates it to an account. |
aura.lang, aura.impostazioni | Remember language and editor settings. | Until cleared or changed. |
aura/onboarding/version, aura/onboarding/start | Run the introduction at the intended time and only when needed. | Persistent version flag; temporary start handoff for the browser tab. |
aura/novita | Show what is new in a release once, and not again after it is closed. | Persistent flag, updated with each release. |
aura/placement-profile/v1, aura/placement-metrics/v1 | Remember aggregate placement preferences and two counters measuring how often automatic placements are adjusted — no labels, map content or node identifiers. Stored on this device only and never sent anywhere. | Until reset or site data is cleared. |
aura/recent-colors/v1, aura.ownerHint | Remember recent colour choices and safely coordinate local-to-account migration. | Until cleared or no longer needed. |
aura/condivisioni | Remember the share links created from this browser, so you can turn them off. Without an account it is the only proof that the link is yours: clearing it leaves the link live until it expires, with no way to turn it off. | Until you turn the link off, until it expires, or until site data is cleared. |
aura/analytics-consent | Remember your answer about measurement, so it is not asked again and can be honoured. It records the choice, including a refusal, which is why it is necessary rather than optional. | Until changed or site data is cleared. |
3. Optional tool: usage measurement
Only if you consent, the PostHog measurement client is loaded and writes its own entry in this browser's storage (a key starting with ph_) containing a pseudonymous identifier and the state of the current session. Alongside it, aura/analytics-identity records which account has already been associated, so that data from two people using the same browser is never merged.
Both are removed when you withdraw consent, together with the measurement identifier. What is sent is described in section 2 of the privacy notice: named events and a closed set of properties, never the content of your maps.
4. Managing storage and changing your mind
You can change the measurement choice at any time from the settings panel or the footer of the public page, without giving a reason.
You can also remove these items from your browser's site-data settings. Removing authentication cookies signs you out; removing local storage deletes anonymous maps and preferences from that browser. Export anything you want to keep first.
If Aurastudy later introduces any other non-essential technology, it will remain disabled until a valid choice is collected and this notice is updated.
